Discover the Hidden World Through Your Lens

Step into a miniature universe of intricate detail with our Macro Photography Day workshops at Boswell Wildlife Photography. Based in our specially designed nature garden in Fife, these workshops offer the perfect opportunity to explore the captivating world of close-up photography among butterflies, moths, and a host of fascinating insects and wildflowers.

What is Macro Photography?

Macro photography is extreme close-up photography where small subjects are captured at life-size magnification or larger. In technical terms, true macro photography achieves a 1:1 magnification ratio or higher, meaning the subject appears life-sized or larger on your camera sensor.

But what does this mean in practice?

Imagine photographing a bee so closely that you can see individual hairs on its body, or capturing a dewdrop on a petal with such clarity that it looks like a crystal ball. Macro photography showcases patterns, shapes, and colours in a way that makes everyday objects look extraordinary, revealing a world invisible to the naked eye.

This specialised form of photography allows you to:Capture intricate details of insects, from compound eyes to delicate wing patterns. Reveal the hidden textures and structures of flowers and plants. Discover abstract patterns in nature that you'd never notice from a distance

This carefully cultivated habitat provides the perfect natural studio for macro photography, with an abundance of subjects throughout the season and sheltered spots for comfortable shooting.
