Guided by naturalists. Inspired by the wild.

Boswell Wildlife Photography offers something rare in the world of wildlife photography tours: guides who are naturalists first. Peter and Tina Boswell don't just lead trips — they read landscapes, anticipate animal behaviour, and place you in exactly the right spot at exactly the right moment. That knowledge, built over decades in some of Scotland's most demanding terrain, is what changes a good photograph into an extraordinary one.

They work in small groups, and take the time to understand your photography. And we never compromise the welfare of the wildlife we've come to see.

Why our clients trust us.

  • Decades of field experience reading the behaviour of eagles, owls, raptors and also otters across Scotland, Scandinavia and beyond.

  • Understanding where a Golden Eagle will perch at first light, or which stretch of shoreline an otter will work at dusk — is what makes wildlife photography exceptional. That's is what we bring.

  •  We bring precision and meticulous planning to every trip.

  • Thirty years living and working on Scotland's West Coast.

  • Small groups only — on our Scottish trips we take 3 guests only. One our international trips between 3 and 6 guests per trip.

  • Members of Nature First.  An unwavering commitment to ethical, non-intrusive wildlife photography.

Our philosophy.

Great wildlife photography is not about luck. It is about knowledge and understanding. Understanding the species you have come to photograph, the terrain you are in at a particular time of year or weather conditions and how this can affect the behaviour of that particular animal or bird.

This is what thirty years in the field teaches you, and it is what we bring to every trip we lead.

We believe the best images come when the photographer is relaxed, informed and fully present. Our role is to handle everything else — the planning, the logistics, the fieldcraft — so that when the moment comes, you are ready.

We work with photographers of all levels, from those picking up a telephoto lens for the first time to experienced professionals seeking access to locations and species they couldn't find alone.

What unites our clients is a desire for something more than a wildlife tour. They want to understand what they are photographing — the behaviour, the ecology, the story behind the image. That is what we love most about what we do.

Ethics are not optional.

We have a simple rule in the field: if our presence is affecting the behaviour of an animal, we leave. No image — however extraordinary — is worth the disturbance of a wild creature. This is not a constraint on what we do. It is the foundation of it.

Wildlife that is relaxed and undisturbed behaves naturally. Natural behaviour makes for the most compelling photographs. Ethical practice and outstanding photography are not in tension — they are the same thing.

We are proud members of Nature First, the international organisation dedicated to responsible nature photography, and we carry those principles into everything we do.

Your trip. Your pace. Your images.

Every photographer is different. Some want technical guidance throughout; others simply want to be in the right place with someone who knows when and where to look. We adapt to you — offering as much or as little input as you want, always with one goal: helping you come home with images you are genuinely proud of.
